Lyon Croix-Rousse hill: between identity and utopias

Come and get lost in the small streets of one of the most iconic neighborhoods of Lyon: the hill of Croix-Rousse and its slopes.

Between the plateau and the slopes, the inhabitants of that little paradise perched on that hill, protected from the river floods, have been the witnesses and the actors of a history fueled by a long opposition to the municipality of Lyon and a constant search for an ideal society.

The alleyways and the small corners of those steep slopes have maintained the memory of the canuts* and other excentric lyonnese people, as well as they offer spectacular views over the Capital of the Gauls.

Take your best shoes, and come and walk from the Croix-Rousse square as we wind our way down through the intimate squares and traboules*, before we finish our tour in the Quartier des Capucins close to Terreaux square.

This tour includes:
Croix-Rousse Square
